The hosting service provider has restored access to CUNYfirst Reporting.

Note that Friday’s and Saturday’s overnight processing data/reporting transfers were unsuccessful. Sunday’s overnight processing and data/reporting transfers are expected to run as scheduled with updated information available on Monday.

CIS and the hosting service provider will continue to monitor CUNYfirst operation and send an update if there is any change in system status.

Subject: CUNYFirst Outage and Emergency Maintenance

The CUNYFirst system is currently unavailable. The system became unavailable at approximately 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. The hosting vendor is experiencing serious hardware malfunctions affecting many of its clients, including CUNY. Engineers from the hosting provider and the hardware manufacturer will be conducting emergency maintenance overnight and through tomorrow to restore the system to operation. At this time, the estimate we have been provided for restoration is 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30.

The CUNY Virtual Desktop environment was upgraded on 07/10/17, all user of VDI should download and install update clients from the Virtual Desktop Installation page.

Use of the CUNY Virtual desktop is limited to 8 hours per session and is for academic purposes only. By using the CUNY Virtual Desktop, you agree to comply with the CUNY Computer Use Policy

For Staff, they need to visit https://vcisgtway.cuny.edu to download the latest client.

CUNYfirst will be launching the Admissions module for Spring 2018 Semester direct admits resulting in CUNYfirst being unavailable as follows:

Unavailable start time: 5 pm on Friday, July 7, 2017

During the time CUNYfirst is unavailable, CUNYfirst MyInfo and all test and development systems, including reporting and training simulation, will be up and running.

The nightly data refresh will not take place while CUNYfirst is unavailable. The first nightly refresh after the Admissions launch will take place on Monday night, July 10.

Subject: CUNYfirst: Tonight – Payroll Interface launch/System Availability

Later today, CUNYfirst will add the Payroll Interface for York College and Guttman Community College. We want to alert you to the following:

  • At 5 pm today, the CUNYfirst System will lock out all student, faculty and staff users even if they are already logged in. All users must complete and save their CUNYfirst work before 5 pm. This planned outage is to accommodate the conversion of data and configurations for the York College and Guttman Community College launch of the CUNYfirst Payroll Interface.
  • CUNYfirst will be unavailable from 5 pm today, June 16, until Sunday morning, June 18. We are targeting to have all Finance, Campus Solutions, HR and Recruiting systems back up by 9 am on Sunday.
  • Although CUNYfirst MyInfo and CUNYfirst Reporting will be available during the launch, the nightly data refreshes do not take place while CUNYfirst is unavailable.

Additional service availability information

  • CUNYfirst will be unavailable from 7 pm on Saturday, June 24 until 7 pm on Sunday, June 25 to conduct the scheduled monthly maintenance for June.
  • CUNYfirst will also be unavailable from 9 pm on Friday, June 30 to 1 am on Saturday, July 1 to support end-of-month financial closing activities.

To: IMS Upgrade Reminder: 10pm on Friday, January 6 through 6am on Saturday, January 7, 2017 with brief service interruption

CUNY is upgrading the identity management system (IMS)
that grants users access to CUNYfirst, CUNYsmart and the Virtual Bookstore
via their CUNYfirst login credentials (CUNYfirst username and password). This
IMS upgrade is required to remain current with CUNY software maintenance and
release plans.

The upgrade start and end time are as follows:

IMS upgrade start time: 10 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017
IMS upgrade end time: 6 am on Saturday, January 7, 2017

During the IMS upgrade, there will be a cutover to the new IMS version that
will briefly interrupt access to any active CUNYfirst, CUNYsmart or Virtual
Bookstore application sometime between 10 pm and 2 am. Following this
cutover, users may have to log back in to application(s) that were active at
the time of cut-over.

After the upgrade, users may notice slight changes to the Virtual Bookstore
login page at John Jay College, Medgar Evers College, the CUNY Law School,
and Queens College. Other campuses will not see any changes in their Virtual
Bookstore software.

The Friday night MyInfo, CUNYfirst data transfer and Reporting data refresh
will still take place as scheduled during the IMS upgrade.

CUNY CIS will be migrating two security related processes to CUNYfirst on Thursday, November 10, 2016.
1) Extract Process: this process will create files with user security information to be used by the campuses – this will have no user impact.
2) Update Blank Permission List: this process will update active employees and students that have blank primary and row security permissions list. This will only affect user that have blank permission lists that should not be blank.

Any user that has existing permission lists will not be affect by the process.

CIS technicians continue to work with our vendors and hosting service providers to investigate the issue and eliminate another service disruption.

get an Oracle sign-in page. A temporary work around for this is to go back to
the home page and choose the reporting instance again. This should bring it
up properly.

After consultation with University’s Registrar, Office of the University Controller and Enrollment Management, Financial Aid and Human Resources offices, the CUNYfirst PeopleTools 8.54 system upgrade has been rescheduled to begin at 5 pm on Friday, May 13, 2016. This system upgrade results in the following CUNYfirst unavailability:

CUNYfirst will be unavailable from 5 pm on Friday, May 13 until 8 am on Tuesday, May 17

Please note the following:

  • You will be notified in the unlikely event that the PeopleTools system upgrade must be postponed.
  • The last ADW (MyInfo), 805 file, i951 file, and Reporting Instance data refresh from CUNYfirst, before the PeopleTools 8.54 upgrade, takes place Thursday night, May 12.
  • The nightly ADW (MyInfo), 805 file, and i951 file data refresh from CUNYfirst restarts Tuesday night, May 17.
  • The PeopleTools 8.54 upgrade for the CUNYfirst Reporting Instances finishes at 5 pm on Tuesday, May 25. Thus, the Reporting Instances will not be available from 5 pm on Friday, May 13 to 5 pm on Wednesday, May 25.
  • The nightly Reporting Instances data refresh from CUNYfirst restarts Wednesday night, May 25.

CIS will be conducting a data center disaster recovery (DR) test starting at 7 pm on Friday, June 12 and lasting up to 24 hours. Updated DR test information is called out under the “Updated information” heading.

This DR test is being conducted during the 24 hours preceding the CUNYfirst monthly maintenance scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday, June 13 through 7 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2015. The DR test and CUNYfirst monthly maintenance combination means that CUNYfirst may not be available from 7 pm on Friday to 7 pm on Sunday, June 12-14, 2015.

Updated information

Active Directory, for all CUNY, and telephone systems hosted from the data center are exempt from the DR test for authentication and public safety reasons.

CUNYfirst is nearing the launch of Campus Solutions for the School of Professional
Studies and the PeopleSoft Financial Aid Module for Bronx Community College,
John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Medgar Evers College.

This update provides the days and hours we expect the CUNYfirst System to be
unavailable to your staff, faculty and students in order to convert and
upload data and configurations into the system. Additionally, we will take
advantage of the scheduled CUNYfirst down time to upgrade the CUNYfirst
Procurement modules to meet the new EE1 requirements of the NYS State
Financial System (SFS).

The college presidents have already been notified.

Campus Solutions Launch on March 25, 2015

Subject to a go live decision from Executive Vice Chancellor Allan Dobrin and
Dean John Mogulescu,
CUNYfirst will be unavailable from 5pm on Wednesday March 25, 2015 until
Monday morning, March 30, 2015 to launch Campus Solutions for the
School of Professional Studies.

For our colleagues at the School of Professional Studies, the CUNYfirst team will
provide access to Campus Solutions applications following a short shake-down
and validation period. The college will then be given access to update and validate
data and transactions that took place from the time its legacy systems were frozen.

During the time CUNYfirst is unavailable to all other colleges, CUNYfirst MyInfo and
all test and development systems, including training simulation, will be up
and running.

Financial Aid Launch on April 2, 2015

CUNYfirst will be unavailable from 5pm on Thursday, April 2, 1015 to 10am on
Friday, April 3, 2015 to launch the PeopleSoft Financial Aid Module for Bronx
Community College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Medgar Evers
College.
