Dear Faculty and Staff,

On December 1st, 2015, CUNY issued a new security procedure that prohibits the automatic forwarding of email from a CUNY email account to a non-CUNY email account. Below is a portion of the procedure:

Email sent to a CUNY email address mailbox shall not be forwarded through an automated means to a non-CUNY destination email address. Selected email may be manually forwarded by a CUNY user to a non-CUNY destination when such forwarding:

a. Will not result in an inappropriate disclosure of NPUI

b. Does not also automatically delete the email from the CUNY mail server

c. Complies with the requirements of the CUNY Policy on Acceptable Use of Computer Resources

For the full text of the procedure, please go to: Auto Forwarding Procedure

The City College Office of Information Technology realizes that this will be an inconvenience to many of you who currently use this feature. One of the ways that we suggest you alleviate some of this inconvenience is by using a mail client that is capable of configuring multiple email accounts. Most smart phones and email clients are capable of configuring more than one email account and displaying messages from all of them to your client simultaneously.

On June 1st, 2016, we are required to remove forwarding capabilities from our mail servers to any domain outside of cuny.edu. If you are forwarding email to an outside domain, please prepare for this change. If you need assistance configuring your smart phone or mail client, contact our service desk at 212-650-7878 and we will assist you with configuring a workable solution.
